Rory Napier has volunteered to take part in the ETAPE Caledonian Cycle Race 2009 on 17th May and whilst doing so he will be raising sponsorship for TCCL. The ETAPE Caledonian event is a closed road cylce race over 81 miles through the perthshire countryside. The event starts and finishes in Pitlochry.
Rory found out about TCCL whilst he was at Ninewells hospital late last year. Rory is a platelet donor and in the last 5 years has given over a hundred donations.
Rory was born in Inverleilor but now lives just up the coast in Montrose. He will be 49 when he undertakes the race.
Rory will be among 3000 cyclists taking part in the event. He will start at 07:00 on the 17th and hopes to be finished the course by around 13:00.
We wish him every sucess in his venture.

Saturday 17th July saw a “TiCCLe” T Party being held in Doodlebugs Nursery in Aberuthven. From 10:30 till 12:00 parents and children had the opportunity to participate in a small and large raffle, have their nails painted (well the females anyway) enjoy home baking or strawberries and cream, as well as a scented candle stall.
The children also had the opportunity to use the outdoor play area as well as a bouncy castle.
Kinneff Reelers & Friends Annual Charity Walk 2010. This walk was a round trip walk from/to Edzell Muir via Hill of Corathro in lower Glen Esk, a distance of around 10 miles.
This year the funds raised have been donated to two charities – Bliss and Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia (TCCL).
The walk – the weather gods smiled upon them, again, and the 30 of walkers had a dry day with some great views (24 hrs earlier would have been a whole lot different!). The walk route was probably a surprise for a few, with it being so close to home but having a lot of contrasting terrain.
On Wednesday 26thMay, members of the St Andrews University Oktoberfest Committee came to the TCCL committee meeting to present them with a cheque for £11,000. The St Andrews Oktoberfest is an annual event held during March and 2010 saw it reach its 4thyear.
The Oktoberfest committee always look to give the proceeds to Charity and this year they were looking for a local charity in order to support and towards the end of 2009, Max Dubiel who chairs the Oktoberfest committee, contacted TCCL to see if we would be interested.
It was with some regret that the committee had to accept the resignation of our current Patron, Mr Norman Fairweather at our March meeting.
Norman, who owns and runs Norman Fairweather Motors on Dundees Kingsway, has been a stong supporter of TCCL for many years, and has participated in many of our events.
He is standing down due to an increase in his business issues, which mean he is finding less time available to support the external organisations in which he has become involved.
In his letter, he comments "The charity is in good hands and I am sure the committee will continue to do a fantastic job, as they have done in the past. I have the highest regard for all the people who work so hard for this charity, and would like to wish them, and everyone connected with TCCL every success for the future."
The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank Norman for all his hard work and enthusiasm that he has brought to us over his years of service. We are truely sorry to see him leave us, but we do wish him every sucess in his business for the future. He will also be welcome at any of our events.
Beer was flowing as St Andrews University hosted its fourth Oktoberfest for Charity.
Some 1200 students from the town and all over europe flocked to Kinkell Byre for the bavarian-themed gathering, inspired by the 200-year-old Munich Oktoberfest.
The event was organised by a group of German students and raised money for Tayside Chilren with Cancer and Leukaemia.

3 Royal mail employees at the Dundee Central Sorting office grew moustaches as a sponsored event during Dec 2009, and decided to donate the money raised to TCCL.
The three are Scott Robertson, Darren Moore and Rickey Turner. They got the idea from the November campaign run by the scottish newspapers for cancer charity where they encouraged people to grow a moustache to help raise money and awareness for men's health issues.
Pam Walker held her 40th Birthday Celebrations at Piper Dam outside Dundee. But rather than receive gifts, she asked her guests to either a) Donate a pint of Blood or b) make a donation to TCCL.
The evening was a great success and she raised the superb total of £800 for TCCL from the event. Pam came along with her children to meet the committee and hand over the cheque at our monthly meeting in Maggies Centre at Ninewells hospital on 27 Jan.
The photo shows Back(l-r) Gaye Steele, Nicki Dobson, Hazel Melrose from the TCCL committee and Front Pam Walker and her son.
The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank Pam for her fund raising effort on our behalf. It is much appreciated.
As 2009 draws to a close, we look back with pride on what our supporters and fundraisers have achieved on our behalf in the last year. Once again we have collectively raised more than £30,000 which has allowed us to carry out our work in supporting the children who suffer from Cancer and Leukaemia, and also to support their families.
We have this year, carried out significant maintainence on the TCCL garden at Ninewells with the replacement of much of the grass earlier in the year, as well as providing some new play equipment for the garden.
We have mainatined our various activities throughout 2009 for the benifit of everyone. Indeed we have had somthing on almost every month in the year. And we continue to support the families through times of hardship, and in some cases the loss of a much loved child.
None of this would be possible without the dedication and support of the entire committee and the many ordinary people who chose to support us during the year, often with quite innovative ideas for raising funds.
12 year old Rothesay boy, Calum Speirs lost his fight for life little more than a year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Brave Calum, a first year pupil at Rothesay Academy, died peacefully at home in Mountstuart Road on Friday 16th February 2007. The funeral service, much of it arranged by Calum himself, was held at the former High Kirk on Wednesday 21st February 2007.
Calum was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour only a few days after the first symptoms were noticed last January- but he’s left his family with a host of happy memories from the 13 months since then. In the 13 months, Calum was an inspiration to all who knew and met him. Calum always laughed and smiled, and his priority was always to think of others.
Calum and his family had decided that they would like to keep helping others by having a Holiday Cabin in Calum’s name to allow other families who are dealing with a child with cancer to have a wonderful holiday on the Isle of Bute.
