Knitters at Dobies

The ladies of the Monifieth Knitters Club are supporting Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia in their Lodge appeal. The 24 strong membership of the group have, over a period of 8 weeks earlier this year, created a complete “knitted village”, which they are now showing at various events and raising funds for the TCCL lodge appeal.

Over the weekend of 7/8 May, they were in Dobbies Garden Centre in Monifieth, where John Walker who is the chairman of TCCL caught up with them for a chat. Norma Duncan who is the secretary of the group explained that they knit for pleasure and have done various items for charity over the years. Wool is often donated or comes from charity shops, and it is amazing what they can create from the art of knitting. The idea of a knitted village fitted very well with the TCCL lodge appeal.

They plan to exhibit the village for the full year of 2011, and donate the monies raised to TCCL at the end of the year.

If you haven't already seen this village, then the future venues that they have planned for the next couple of months are:

21st May (11am – 2pm) Coffee morning in Our Lady of Good Council Church in Broughty Ferry

19th June (12:30 pm – 4:30 pm) Trewel Fair in Monifieth Town Centre.
