On Their Bikes for TCCL

Cheque Handover at TCCL Lodge James Cowie, Oran McNair cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats to raise money for Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia. They have a school friend who has benefited from respite ion the lodge in St Andrews. They planned this by themselves, sorted the route and used gullible grandparents to pay for the accommodation and cycle gear. They set off on the 13th of June from Lands End but had to detour via Dundee for Oran to play at the school end of term concert, arriving in JoG on the 2nd of July. They travelled without support vehicle and so the journey could not have been done without Rob Norrie who not only provided one and a half bikes but patiently taught the boys the basics of bike maintenance whilst ensuring that the bikes were road worthy. They were met in Carlisle by my sister and her husband who rebuilt the bikes, repairing broken cogs and replacing brake pads and then treated them to beer and pizza. Despite the many warnings of the terrible Berridale Braes in the North of Scotland, by the time the boys had cycled that far they proved to be a piece of cake compared to the ups and downs of Cornwall and Devon.
